Application Process

 

Admission Requirements

 

  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
         Applicants with degrees from institutions outside the United States must submit
         transcripts that have been evaluated by the American Association of Collegiate 
         Registrars and Admissions Officers.
  • A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0.
  • A minimum combined score of 1000 on the GRE (verbal and quantitative) or a minimum scaled score of 400 on the MAT. Scores on either of these exams must be within the past five years. 
  • An official test score on the TOEFL (minimum score of 550 on paper test, minimum score of 213 on computer test) for applicants from non-English speaking countries.

Recommended Prerequisite Courses

  • PSY 325 Theories of Personality
  • PSY 420 Abnormal Psychology
  • Math 310 Statistics
  • WR 320 Writing in the Social Sciences

These programs are not required for admission to the program but may be helpful to students without a background in psychology.

 

Application Requirements

 

  • An application for admission, accompanied by a non-refundable $50 application fee.
  • Official Transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework.
  • An official test score report from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogy Test (MAT).
  • A statement of purpose of two pages (double-spaced) articulating interest in counseling as a profession.
  • A resume documenting all education and experience, especially in psychology, mental health, or related fields
  • A personal interview for selected applicants, following application deadline.

Application Deadlines

 

Early Admission: March 15th of the intended year of enrollment.

 

Following the early admission deadline, selected applicants will be scheduled for an interview by April 1. Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the program by April 15.

 

Late Admission: Applications may be accepted until July 1 on a space-available basis only. Applicants should be aware that previous classes have typically filled by April with later applicants being placed on a wait list.
