What is your ideal work day? Offering companionship and a warm meal to homeless teens in a local shelter; providing counseling at a home for victims of domestic violence; leading groups in alcohol and drug recovery; and fighting poverty and oppression locally and globally? If you are passionate about helping others and dedicated to eradicating injustice in the world, you should consider studying Human Services at Northwest Christian College.
The Human Services major on Northwest Christian will give you practical preparation for a career in the social services field in agencies such as the Department of Human Services, Adult and Family Services, Senior and Disabled Services, and Victim Advocacy. As a graduate, you will work with social workers, public safety, physicians, and other specialists who help individuals tackle major challenges in their lives. You will also be prepared for careers and services that provide intervention for citizens with substance abuse problems or victims of crime or violence.
At Northwest Christian College, you will not only study for a career in the field of social services, you will do so in classes where a Christian and liberal arts foundation will ensure that your knowledge is broadened, that your work is ethical, and that your faith is deepened.
Majors: Human Services (Bachelor of Arts)
Campus Activities Students can join the Psychology club, volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, serve at the Eugene Mission, or help out at any number of non-profits in Eugene. Twice a year, many Northwest Christian College students attend an “Urban Outreach” and travel to major urban areas such as Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Los Angeles to help ministries and relief agencies serve the poor and needy. Other students spend two weeks of their summer going with Northwest Christian’s missions team. Recent outreaches have helped to rebuild playgrounds in Bosnia and delivered food aid to victims of poverty and flooding in Haiti.
