Softball Coaching Staff
Head Coach Tim Hood
Tim Hood enters his ninth season as the head coach for the Northwest Christian College softball team. He is the lone coach in the history of the program, since it’s inception in 1999.
In that time, Hood has developed a successful program, earning a pair of trips to the USCAA National tournament, taking second place in both 2002 and 2005.
Coach Hood’s coaching career has included a stint as the head coach for South Eugene HS in 1994 and 1995, where his teams defeated city rivals Churchill, Thurston, Sheldon and North Eugene for the first time in school history. He has also coached travel ball teams, including the Black Magic 14U team and the South Eugene Storm.
Hood has also worked as the Manager for the Morse Event Center, since it’s opening in the fall of 2003. He graduated from NCC in 1999 with a B.A. in Education. He has been married to his wife, Sheila for 17 years. They have four children.
Assistant Coach Ray Moffitt
Ray Moffitt returns to NCC as the Pitching Coach after a three-year hiatus. This is his fifth year with the Beacon softball program.
Moffitt brings a wealth of experience, dating back 23 years as a coach and pitching instructor. Most recently, he with the Oakridge School District for four years, including a two-year stint as a Head Coach.
Prior to his time at NCC, Moffitt had spent four seasons at North Bend High School, from 1996-2000, where he earned Coast District Coach of the Year honors. Previously, he had been at Lowell high school (1993-1996), earning back-to-back TRICO League Coach of the Year honors. He was also twice selected to coach the Oregon 2A All Stars in 1995 and 1996.
Since 1984, Coach Moffitt has also been the owner and instructor for Pioneer Pitching Clinics, where he has worked as a pitching instructor and has established a successful coaching clinic program.
Moffitt graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1973 and went on to earn a Masters degree in Teaching from Willamette University in 1993. He also works part time as a Loan Officer with Northwest Lending Group. He has four children.
Assistant Coach Lynda Brunscheon
Lynda Brunscheon returns to the Beacons coaching staff after one year off. She begins her seventh season on the Tim Hoods staff, having been with the program since it's inception.
Brunscheon has been coaching for 15 years, beginning in 1993 as the JV head coach and Varisty assistant at Harrisburg High School. She was then at Marist High for three seasons as the JV head coach and Varsity assistant. In 1997 she accepted a job as the Assistant Coach at Lane Community College, where she spent two seasons before joining the staff at NCC.
She had the great privelidge to coach her daughter Shari Brunsheon throughout her career, at Marist HS, Lane CC and then junior and senior seasons at Northwest Christian College.
Brunscheon also played for many years on semi-pro travel teams. She was the Catcher for the McCulloch Chainsaws in the early 1970's, traveling all throughout the Northwest for the late Coach Jack Moore.
Brunsheon has been married to her husband David for 32 years. In addition to their daughter Shari they have two sons and two granddaughters.
