Job Summary:

The Dean of the School of Business and Management reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty and oversees the effective operation and development of the School of Business and Management.  The Dean oversees faculty and staff in the school and administers all academic programs in business and management, including undergraduate majors (traditional and non-traditional) and the expanding MBA program.   Leadership abilities, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and the desire to support the mission of NCC are paramount in this position. This position requires a strong commitment to multiculturalism and diversity.  This is a full time administrative appointment.

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Develops and implements program goals for both new and existing management degree programs for traditional day classes, Professional Studies Program, and the MBA program.

 

Leads in the development and expansion of the current MBA program to address new market opportunities, both domestic and international.

 

Ensures that departmental and program assessment plans are developed and implemented and that each academic program/major undergoes formal review at least every three years.

 

Oversees preparation and management of the program budget, including expected revenue and line item expenditures, with five year budget projections.

 

Actively participates in marketing of the programs as well as forming partnerships with other institutions of higher education where appropriate.

 

Actively represents the program to campus and community groups through ongoing and systematic community relations efforts.

 

Supervises the development of the Business and Management curriculum in cooperation with the appropriate department heads and committees.

 

Implements and ensures adherence to Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) guidelines and standards.

 

Understands and develops programs in accordance to the guidelines of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

 

Collaborates with the Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies and with the Chair of Professional Studies Programs to ensure the academic excellence and quality delivery of all graduate and PSP programs in the area of business and management.

 

Supervises the evaluation of the curriculum and instruction ensuring the delivery of quality academic programs for the traditional program, MBA, and Professional Studies Program.

 

Supervises the implementation of all classes planned for the year in both traditional day program and in the MBA.

 

Assists the V.P. for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty in the recruitment of faculty (including adjunct faculty) and staff for all programs.

 

Oversees regular performance reviews for all faculty and staff in the School of Business & Management.

 

Reports regularly to the V.P. for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty on budget status and programmatic issues.

 

Develops and maintains a four-year calendar of classes for all programs of study in the school of business & management.

 

Seeks and implements innovative delivery of education in distance learning where appropriate.

 

Assists the Registrar’s office in transcript evaluation and recording of student progress.

 

Approves students' academic degree plans and assures that degree requirements are met according to academic policies and standards.

 

Supports and participates in the development of a faculty orientation materials/events and a student handbook.

 

Assigns mentors to adjuncts who teach in any of the classes taught or designed by the School of Business and Management.

 

Oversee the continuous evaluation of the curriculum and assessment of student learning in conjunction with School of Business and Management faculty.

 

In conjunction with program chairs, ensure that each program undergoes a periodic program review every three years.

 

Ensure that each program in the School of Business and Management has an active assessment plan and that results from annual assessment are used in program planning and budgeting.

 

Work with the VPAA and the Faculty Development Committee to provide opportunities for faculty professional development and scholarship.

 

Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Earned doctorate in an appropriate discipline in the field of business and management along with a proven track record of excellence in teaching and related scholarly activities at the post-secondary level.  Evidence of promoting student-faculty collaborative research in the field of business and management.  Record of strong leadership experience in administrative positions. Familiarity with curriculum standards and new program development protocols.  Ability to utilize Windows-based software including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Experience utilizing email for the purposes of organizational communications
