NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HOSTS ANNUAL LANE COUNTY MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. CELEBRATION
EUGENE, OR. – November 16, 2006-Northwest Christian College-
Northwest Christian College will host the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. The event is sponsored by Symantec, PeaceHealth, Lane Community College, Northwest Christian College, and the University of Oregon. The event takes place January 15, 2007, in the Morse Event Center at Northwest Christian College.
The doors will open at 5:00 p.m., and the event begins at 6:00 p.m. All members of the community are welcome.
Reverend Walter Fauntroy, Ph.D., keynote speaker and pastor of the New Bethel Baptist church in Washington, D.C., served twenty years in the U.S. House of Representatives and was Dr. King’s personal representative. Rev Fauntroy coordinated the March on Washington in 1963, the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights March of 1965, and the Meredith Mississippi Freedom March in 1966. He was a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus and is president of the National Black Leadership Roundtable, co-chair of the Sudan campaign, and the head of the Millennium. Villages Project, a U.S. based private sector effort to eliminate extreme poverty in Africa by 2025.
