Beacon Golf Program Announced, Coaches Hired
Eugene, OR - Northwest Christian College Athletic Director Corey Anderson announces the addition of Men’s and Women’s Golf, beginning in the fall of 2007. Golf brings the total number of NCC teams to ten, adding seven new sports over the past two years.
“I believe that golf will be a great addition to our athletic program and our institution,” said Anderson. “It is a natural fit for the region and for us as a school to join the fastest growing collegiate sport.”
Anderson added, “We continue to grow our athletic department with an eye on not just increased enrollment, but also an increase in value for athletics within the institution. Golf gives us another valuable opportunity for growth and development, both on the field of play and off.”
Tommy Limbach has been hired as the head coach for the men’s golf program. Limbach is a PGA professional and currently works in Financial Services and Group Benefits for Pacific Benefit Consultants. He has been a leading member of the local golf community for more than 16 years, working as a club pro and General Manager at Ilahe Hills Country Club in Salem, Willamette Valley Country Club in Canby, and most recently at the Eugene Country Club. He has worked extensively with the USGA while developing strong ties to the community through numerous clinics and fundraising efforts. Limbach has worked tirelessly organizing junior golf programs and has worked with such notable local players as Erik Fiskum and Ryan Gilmore (OSU) and A.P. Parks.
Coach Limbach said, “It is my lifelong love for the game of golf and my passion for working with young people that have pushed me towards this endeavor.” He added, “I am grateful to have an opportunity to coach at the collegiate level and at an institution with strong values.”
Tony Joyner joins the coaching staff as the women’s golf coach. Joyner serves currently as the teaching professional at Mark Keating’s School of Golf. He has also worked on the coaching staff for the Sheldon High Girls team in Eugene. Joyner was a four-year letter-winning golfer at the University of Oregon and was a two-time member of NCAA National Championship qualifying teams. He finished fourth at the Pac-Ten Tournament in 1985.
“I am very excited to be able to coach at a faith-based school with a strong mission and values,” said Joyner. “It makes me proud to be a representative of a great school that believes in delivering more than just a classroom education to its students. I have a passion for being a coach at the collegiate level, and I look forward to using my experience as a player, coach, and professional to establish a successful women’s golf program.”

“I am very proud of the coaching selections that we have made for the golf teams,” said Anderson. “These two gentlemen bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will enhance all aspects of our programs. Both Tommy and Tony are true ‘Champions of Character’ and will be a positive influence on our student-athletes.”
Negotiations are currently underway with golf courses in the greater Eugene area to establish a home golf course for the men’s and women’s teams.
Northwest Christian College is currently in its probationary year of membership in both the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Cascade Collegiate Conference (CCC). When the Beacons attain full membership in fall 2007, eight sports will compete in CCC competition.
As only the fourth conference school to host men’s and women’s golf programs, the golf teams will compete as independent members of the NAIA’s Region II. The Beacons become the 167th school with golf programs in the NAIA.
