NCC TO HONOR THE REV. DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.
April 4th marks the 40th anniversary of his assassination
EUGENE, Ore.---Students, faculty and staff at Northwest Christian College (NCC) will mark the 40th anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination on April 4 by inviting the community to a series of public readings of his writings from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the college’s Kellenberger Library.
“Dr. King used the power of words to educate and motivate change in our country and in our hearts,” said David Wilson, president of Northwest Christian. “We celebrate his life and recognize the anniversary of his untimely death by sharing with the community his words as inspiration to renew our individual commitment to live lives grounded in his message and belief of equality and justice for all.”
Dr. King’s writings will be read aloud by volunteers from the student body, faculty and staff. Works to be read will include selections from Dr. King’s sermons, speeches, letters, and essays. Readers will choose their own excerpts with topics covering civil rights, Viet Nam, poverty, Christian ethics, and more.
