Northwest Christian College Professor Hosts Free Clinics
for Home-Schooled Students
 

Eugene, Ore.--- Doyle Srader, PhD., new assistant professor of speech and communication at Northwest Christian College, is leading free clinics in public speaking and debate for home-schooled students. The workshops, which are open to all home-schooled students, will be held every Saturday from Feb. 16 through May 3. Classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in Kellenberger Library, Room 203B, on the Northwest Christian College Campus, 1075 Alder St., Eugene.
 
“I’ve learned that home-schooled students make up a sizable segment of our student population. We’re interested in making sure home-schooled students in the area know that we exist, that they feel welcome on our campus and have a sense of what we can offer,” Srader says.
 
Srader's workshops are not intended for a particular age group, although he suggests that if children are able to read current events publications that are intended for adult readers, and if they can concentrate for one hour, they are ready. Students only need to bring a pencil and paper to attend. There is currently no limit on the number of participants, and registration is not required.
 
The workshops are intended for beginners; students need not have any prior knowledge of speech or debate. The workshops will be divided into two sessions: public speaking from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and debate from 11 a.m. to noon. Students also have the option of attending one session and not the other. The workshops will build on what’s been previously covered, but students can drop in at any point they wish.
