Assume that all alarms are real. Fire extinguishers are located in many areas throughout campus. Familiarize yourself with the location of the closest fire extinguisher to your work station.

Action Steps
- In case of fire, close the door to the room with the fire and sound the fire alarm.
- Call 9-9-1-1. Give your name and the location of the fire. Do not hang up unless it becomes unsafe where you are located.
- If the fire is small, control with a fire extinguisher if you are comfortable.
- If the fire is large, very smoky, or spreading rapidly, immediately evacuate.
- Never use building elevators in case of fire or earthquakes.
- Follow evacuation procedures
- Look for lighted EXIT signs and/or posted evacuation maps.
- Do not use elevators in case of fire or earthquake, use nearest stairway.
- Walk, do not run, to the nearest exit.
- Leave the building and move a safe distance away. Do not obstruct emergency personnel or vehicles.
- Gather in the Morse Event Center parking lot - find your building incident response coordinator.
- Stay with your building group as much as possible.
- Take purses and backpacks when evacuating. Close doors but do not lock them.
- You may return to a building when you are told it is safe by a college official.
