Housing Sign-ups for Returning Students
Housing Lottery
Residence Life utilizes a point system based upon total credits earned and semesters living on-campus. Any student who desires housing for the upcoming academic year will be invited to participate in the spring housing lottery. Residence Life will literally line students up according to points earned. Roommate pairing will be allowed to lineup according to the roommate who has the highest points. One person at a time will approach the chart of available rooms (some rooms will be set aside for 1st year students and new transfer students) and select their room/apartment for next year. If you do not attend the housing lottery you will be assigned a room unless you are 21 years old or older by September 1st or have completed the waiver process. This process is designed to be fair and allow for students' freedom to choose their living space.
Who Can Participate?
Students wishing to participate in the housing lottery nee to complete four steps:
- Pay a $100 housing fee to the Business Office. Your receipt will be needed to be shown at the housing lottery. It is required in order to sign up for a specific room or apartment.
- Complete a current housing agreement. Housing agreements are a lease agreement with the institution. The agreement outlines specific payment information, policies, and terms. Please read the housing agreement thoroughly before signing in agreement and return the form to Residence Life.
- Complete a FAFSA. This is an important step in determining financial aid and must be done each year you attend college. For more information, visit the Financial Aid Website.
- Be in "Good Standing" with the Business Office. Being in good standing with the Business Office means not having outstanding debt over a certain amount. If you have an outstanding balance, please contact the Business Office to determine "good standing" by calling 541-684-7204.
Roommates
Single Occupancy rooms are very limited on-campus; most students will need to have a roommate. Finding a roommate prior to the lottery is advantageous. Roommate pairings will be allowed to line up in the housing lottery according to the roommate who has the highest points. If you do not choose a roommate, one will be assigned by Residence Life through the "Student Profile" form. Students will be notified of their roommate as pairs are determined. The goal is to finalize roommate pairs by July 1st.
The Event
The housing lottery can cause anxiety, but also fuels excitement for on-campus living. Summer improvements will be announced, food is served, and great conversation always abounds at the event. The lottery takes place the week following spring break.

Living Off-Campus
According to Northwest Christian Colleges Residency Requirements, students who are 21 years old, married, or living with their parents may live off-campus. If you do not meet those criteria, Residence Life offers a petition process.
Petitions asking for exemptions in housing policy may be granted by the Petition Review Committee. A petition to move off campus should be submitted to the Director of Residence Life by May 1 in order to be considered for a fall waiver and by November 1 for a spring waiver. Notification of the decision will be made in writing. If the petition is accepted, students are responsible for notifying Student Services to adjust billing.
Petitions requesting exemption for meal plans are also granted by the Petition Review Committee. All petitions regarding meal plans must be submitted by the second week of class. No changes can be made to student housing agreements after the second week of class. Notification of the review committee's decision will be made in writing. If the petition is accepted, students are responsible for notifying Student Services to adjust billing.
