WINSTED, CT – April 25, 2019 – The LGBTQIA+ Club at Northwestern Connecticut Community College (NCCC) will host Pride Palooza, a daylong conference for Gay, Lesbian and Transgendered High School and Community College students, on May 10, 2019 on the NCCC campus in Winsted.  Mark E. Ojakian, President of Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, will deliver the Opening Remarks at 9:00 am.

Following the official opening, a series of workshops will be presented on a variety of topics of relevance and importance to the LGBT community.  After lunch, musical entertainment will be provided by Singer/Songwriter Johnathan Celestin.  Johnathan Celestin released his debut EP in 2012, while attending Columbia University and has since toured the Eastern Seaboard promoting his music and message.  Celestin loves performing at Pride festivals, “It’s always big energy and lots of love,” said the Washington, D.C.-based singer. “I think a lot of time people come to Prides to celebrate.  It’s a celebration and that’s important.  But a large part of my show is that I aim to impart to people a message of encouragement.  There are a lot of people going through a lot of things. So I try to make sure while I am there I impart some kind of encouragement.  I want to leave people with that.  I want people to remember how I made them feel.”

Karen Hunter, NCCC’s LGBTQIA+ Club Advisor, indicated that she expects over 100 students from Connecticut High School and Community College Pride Clubs to attend Pride Palooza.
