Edith Skiba LaMonica

Nature has always been my source of inspiration. My art expresses my reverence for nature as a force that initiates, sustains and controls all physical life. The paintings on exhibit began with my observation of the woodland pond by my studio where I daily witness the living process of nature in the wild.

The seasons and weather continually revise the conditions and appearance of this untamed environment. Trees, plants and wildlife change shape and intertwine with clouds and other reflections in the shifting water, thereby conflating reality and illusion. My work plays out my fascination with nature as the unpredictable reality that is also essential to our human experience. My paintings are explorations of the nature of reality.

Ms. LaMonica has a BA in Painting from SUNY Empire State College, Old Westbury and a Master in Art History from Stony Brook University. Her career has involved teaching and lecturing at colleges and art venues in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
