Artist Statement

Relationship: the relation of one part in relation to another part or whole I have been working predominately with line for a long time. Initially my line was controlled, solid, and clearly defined. It has undergone a transformation over the past few years, consisting of short, squiggle lines and symbols that are layered; creating depth, value and texture, and define shape.

In this series, the line remains, however the focus is on the relationship between the layered lines and color. Each monochromatic work, with subtle exceptions, explores the relationship of color, the underlying progression of color and shape within each piece, the relation of the layers of line and colors with the base color and the interaction, relationship, that alter how they are perceived. There is also a relationship between the colors and lines of the works as a whole, even though each is an individual work, they work harmoniously creating a cohesive unit, progressing from one color to the next, exploring the relationships between them.

It is said that nothing exists in a vacuum. As much as one might feel isolated, we are not. We all are apart of a variety of relationships, significant in relation to a greater whole.
