Andrew Jack – Artist Statement
Growing up with cabinet and millworkers in my family, my life with craft in wood began early. My work with wood began in earnest as a BFA candidate, at which point I had become interested in the studio furniture movement. The last 10 years have been focused on emulating the contemporary masters of greenwood chairmaking, specifically those making both traditional and modern Windsor chairs. I feel like my work, with it’s tiny footprint and aim to heirloom quality, plays a small but important roll in our “throwaway” society. My work with the masters has laid a foundation of techniques and processes that I am excited to build on in my own work, as well as to share through instruction.
