Manufacturing Program & Certificate

Northwestern Community College will be offering this FREE(!) six-week training for students who reside in the Northwest Corner of CT. The program will provide students with a broad background of skills necessary for a vibrant career in manufacturing. Modules for the class include measurement, workplace safety, basic benchwork, blueprint reading, manufacturing concepts, and manufacturing math. Students who successfully complete this program will have the opportunity to take one industry-recognized NIMS Certifications.

This program is generously sponsored by the Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board. Classes will run from May 15-June 22, 2023.

This program will meet on Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays from 4:00-7:00pm, May 15-June 22nd.

On Mondays, we will be meeting in the Manufacturing Lab at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington. Students will be learning about Manufacturing Processes.

On Wednesdays, we will be meeting in Founders Hall 107 at NWCC in Winsted. Students will learn Blueprint Reading.

On Thursdays, we will be meeting in Founders Hall 107 and doing some career readiness work and touring local manufacturing shops.

Perks: All texts will be provided. Students may receive a biweekly stipend.

Larry Pomerleau is the Associate Education Consultant of the Manufacturing Cluster at the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System and former lead of the Manufacturing Program at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School. He is also a State of CT Journeyman and Tool & Die maker. Before teaching, Larry had a twenty-year career in the local manufacturing industry. He earned his Associate in Science degree at Waterbury State Technical School and Bachelor of Arts at the University of Bridgeport.

Jim Mills  is the Precision Machining Technology Department Head at Henry Abbott Technical High School and Lecturer in Manufacturing at NCCC and NVCC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts at Central Connecticut State University.

Bruce Ejzak is the Manufacturing Coordinator and specializes in Blueprint Reading and SolidWorks. He is retired from Oliver Wolcott Technical High School. Before teaching, Bruce had a twenty-year career in the local manufacturing industry.He earned his Associate in Science degree at Charter Oak State College.
