History: In Fall of 2019, The Northwestern CT Community College Student Senate put forth a proposal for a new mascot. The colleges unofficial mascot, Pioneer Pete, had not be used in publications in several years and only existed in graphic form. To modernize the image of the campus and to increase school spirit, the Student Senate with the blessing of the college administration, sought nominations for a new mascot.

In early winter of 2019, the Moose narrowly won over the Bobcat by a vote conducted community wide through the NWCC.edu website. Slowed drastically by the outbreak of the 2020 Novel Corona Covid-19 virus outbreak, finding a qualified vendor and production was difficult due to international restrictions on shipping and lock-downs around the world. Despite social distancing obstacles, material shortages and factory shutdowns, BAM Mascots of  Mississauga, ON Canada was able to design, build and complete the costume for its arrival in January 2021. The costume would make its first public debut on May 27, 2021 at an outdoor drive-thru graduation ceremony ath the Five Points Art Gallery located at the Old UConn of Torrington Campus.
